Hermanubis Golden Dawn Temperance cards

"This drawing represents the more ancient form of the 14th Key of Tarot, for which the later and more usual form of Temperance was soon substituted, as better representing the natural symbolism of the Path Sagittarius. The earlier figure was considered not so much a representation of this Path alone, as the synthesis of that and the others conjoined. The later figure, therefore, is better adapted to the more restricted meaning. The more ancient forms shows a female figure crowned with the crown of five rays, symbolising the Five Principles of Nature, the concealed Spirit and the Four Elements of Earth, Air, Water and Fire. About her head is a halo of light. On her breast is the Sun of Tiphareth. The Five-rayed Crown further alludes to the Five Sephiroth Kether, Chokmah, Binah, Chesed and Geburah. Chained to her waist are a Lion and an Eagle, between which is a large cauldron whence arise steam and smoke. The Lion represents the Fire in Netzach—the Blood of the Lion, and the Eagle represents the Water in Hod, the Gluten of the Eagle whose reconcilement is made by the Air in Yesod, uniting with the volatilised Water arising from the cauldron through the influence of the Fire beneath it. The chains which link the Lion and the Eagle to her waist, are symbolic of the Paths of Scorpio and Capricornus as shown by the Scorpion and the Goat in the background. In her right hand, she bears the Torch of Solar Fire elevating and volatilising the Water in Hod by the fiery influence of Geburah, while with her left hand, she pours from a vase the Waters of Chesed to temper and calm the Fires of Netzach.

The 25th Path of the Sepher Yetzirah to which the Tarot Key of Temperance is referred, is called the Intelligence of Probation, and it is so called because it is the primary temptation by which the Creator tries all righteous person. That is, that in it, there is ever present the temptation to turn aside to the one hand or to the other."

Thoughts on the Portal Ritual

Enochian energies in the Portal Ritual.

“Its pretty clear the elements are in the real world…the vault is the spiritual one so that they [the Enochian energies] can’t get past the door…Yes the portal is the active bit of Tipareth…the vault is the part of the person that looks to heaven.”

Personal correspondence with Nick Farrell 6/11/18.

Mather's Last Secret pgs 237-238..."...The Black Pillar is placed in the SouthWest and the White Pillar in the NorthEast...Throughout the entire Outer Order the pillars have been associated with portals and gateways. They are always seen together. Placing them in this position slashes a large vortex across the temple from the NorthEast to the SouthWest. This vortex can only be the Veil of Paroketh. The pillars are flipped so that the White one is on the left and the Black one is on the right. In this rite we have the Hierophant Inductor (Chief Adept) sitting on the other side of the portal, mirroring the candidate and providing the perfected image of reality. The pivot of these two worlds is the altar, which is the point where the Veil opens. This explains why the Veil of Paroketh is not represented physically as it is in the later Portal Rite...
THE ENOCHIAN TABLETS ARE AWAY FROM THE ALTAR IN THE "REAL WORLD". LIKE THE VAULT, WHERE THE ELEMENTAL TABLETS ARE ONLY ALLOWED ON THE DOOR, THEY CANNOT ENTER THIS SPIRITUAL WORLD.
Looking at/comparing 3 different diagrams of the floor for the Ritual of the Portal, i.e. Mather’s Last Secret by Nick Farrell, Self Initiation into the Golden Dawn Tradition by Chic & Tabatha Cicero, and Golden Dawn Rituals and Commentaries by Pat Zalewski, we discovered some inconsistencies…

First in the A.O. ritual [as originally practiced by the Golden Dawn] there is NO designated Veil of Paroketh. It is manifested by the placement of the Pillars, and balanced by the placement of the Banners. The central point is the Altar itself in the Temple itself…to the West of the altar is the “Real World” the ‘Elemental World’-to the East of the altar is the “Spiritual World”…the Candidate must ‘pass through the Pillars-before he/she can ‘open the veil’-the Enochian Elemental Tablets are set up in the West of the Temple-between the Black Pillar and the Banner of the West. The Tablet of Union sits in the center-surrounded by the Elemental Enochian Tablets. The Associate Adept is also stationed in the West. ALL of the Hebrew Paths are also in the ‘Spiritual World.’

In Self Initiation into the Golden Dawn-the Elemental Tablets are positioned in their respective directions-AIR in the East, FIRE in the South, WATER in the West, and EARTH in the North…to the West of the Veil of Paroketh-or in other words-in the “Real World”…the Tablet of Union is past the Veil in the ‘Spiritual World’. The Hebrew Paths are all in the ‘Real World’ to the West of the Veil. The Pillars are to the East of the Veil as well-in the ‘Spiritual World’

In Commentaries by Pat-the temple is set up the same-with some exceptions of the diagrams being in different placements, and the Pentacle/’Pantacle’ in the ‘Spiritual World’ rather than in the ‘Real World’ above the altar as in the diagram in Self Initiation…Once again-the Enochian Elemental tablets are set up in the associated directions in the “Real World”, with the Tablet of Union in the ‘Spiritual World’

Of note-there are also differing amounts, duties, and names of the officers involved in the various rituals. In Mather’s Last Secret-there is the ‘Hierophant Indictor, the Associate Adept and the Candidate. In Self-Initiation officers are only indicated by wand placements, so there are the Sword, the Miter-headed Wand, the Salt-headed Wand, and the Sulfur-headed Wand to the West of the Veil of Paroketh in the ‘Real World’ and the Pentagram-headed Wand to the East of the Veil of Paroketh in the “Spiritual World’. In Pat’s Commentaries there is the Hiereus, the Hegemon, the 3rd Adept and the 2nd Adept to the West of the Veil in the ‘Real World’ and the Chief Adept to the East of the Veil in the “Spiritual World’…

so the Portal officers are:
·         The Chief Adept (SPIRIT) who carries the White Pentagram-headed Scepter/Wand
·         The 2nd Adept (FIRE) who carries an Ank, a Red Lotus Wand, and/or the Red Sulphur headed Wand
·         The 3rd Adept (WATER) who carries an Ank. a Blue Lotus Wand, and/or the Blue Salt headed Wand

·         the Hegemon (AIR) who carries an Ank and a Yellow Lotus Wand
·         The Hiereus (EARTH) who carries the Crook of Mercy and the Scourge of Severity

...so it would seem fitting for whom ever is the 2nd Adept FIRE-to also do the duties of the Hegemon AIR...and the 3rd Adept WATER -to also do the duties of the Hiereus EARTH...
Being limited in number-our Temple would have to combine elements of officers-i.e. Frater P. Acting Hierophant/Chief Adept, and the other Officers accordingly.
OF Interest here though-is the Placement of the Hiereus in the West-the Hiereus’ Sword, and the placement of the Enochian Elemental Tablets & the Tablet of Union in the West as well-with the Hiereus between the Enochian tablets/tablet of Union and the West…
“The Hiereus is the officer known as ‘The Avenger of the Gods”. He guards the Temple from the Qlippoth or Evil Ones who dwell beneath Malkuth in the Kingdom of Shells. He represents a terrible avenging god at the confines of Matter, who is enthroned upon Matter and robed in Darkness…the grip is red to represent the Path of Shin-alluding to Universe governed by the flaming force of Divine Severity. The ‘Sword of Vengence’ is the name of this implement. Because the Sword of the Hiereus is used to guard the Temple its natural use in the Golden Dawn ceremonies is for banishing and protection. At any time…the Hierophant may call upon the Hiereus to perform the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram.”
Secrets of a Golden Dawn Temple
~Chic & Tabatha Cicero~
Therefore the Placement of the Enochian Elemental Tablets/Tablet of Union in the West-is Important-in that-they can be controlled and the Temple can be protected by the Hiereus and the Sword of Vengence-as well as IF the energies do ever get ‘out-of-hand’ or uncomfortable-the Hiereus is at the ready to Banish with the Sword.

Suggested ritual modification-utilizing the original G.D./A.O. ritual of the Portal-the WATER Stolistes (Passive), and the FIRE Dadouchos (Active) Purify & Consecrate the Temple by WATER & FIRE. Then assume the Offices of Hegemon (Passive) and Hiereus (Active)-all of this in the ‘Real World’…to the West of the Altar-MODIFICATION being-the Hegemon-instead of being stationed to the East of the Altar-will be stationed just to the West of the Altar-East of the Enochian Tablets/Tablet of Union, with the Hiereus-West of the Enochian Tablets/Tablet of Union in the traditional placement as Protector.
Then once the Veil of Paroketh has been ‘opened’ the Sword of the Hiereus is Placed OVER the Enochian Tablets/Tablet of Union to protect/control the potential energy currents

·         Passive Officer- (Stolistes/Hegemon) moves into the ‘Spiritual World’ and assumes the officer of the 3rd Adept-Blue Salt headed wand, and the
·         Active Officer- (Dadouchos/Hiereus) moves into the ‘Spiritual World’ and assumes the officer of the 2nd Adept-Red Sulphur headed wand

Establishing:
·         PASSIVE- Stolistes-WATER- Hiereus-EARTH -3rd Adept-WATER
·         ACTIVE-Dadouchos-FIRE- Hegemon-AIR -2nd Adept-FIRE

The Crux Ansata: The Ankh Wand, the Crook of Mercy and the Scourge of Severity.

The Crux Ansata: The Ankh Wand, the Crook of Mercy and the Scourge of Severity.

The Crux Ansata, the Ankh Wand

The Ankh is representative of Eternal Life. The shape was supposedly based upon teh form of a sandal-strap. The contour of the ankh also resembles a device used in Ancient Egypt to measure the depth of the river Nile. Since the Egyptians depended heavily upon the river for food and agriculture, the Ankh-shape came to symbolize Life itself.
The Ankh-cross is a sacred symbol which alludes to the manifestation of the Divine Force. It also signifies the Divine Union of opposites; active and passive, male and female. The Ankh combines the masculine Tau shape with the feminine Oval, alluding to the powers of generation. The shape of the Ankh expressed a profound idea; that of the circle o life spreading outwards from its origin and manifesting into the four elements. From another point of view, the circle of the Ankh alludes to the sun, the horizontal line to the sky, and the vertical line to the earth.
Of primary importance here is the fact that the ankh is a form of the symbol of Venus, the planet whose wall is the door into the Vault of the Adept (i.e. the Second Order). It is thus the symbolic "Key" into the Temple of the Inner Order, the "Key of Life" and another form of the Rose and Cross. Venus is the only planet whose sigil embraces all of the Sephiroth on the Tree of Life. Therefore the wand is painted to represent the force of the ten Sephiroth in nature-divided into Hexad and Tetrad. The oval embraces the first six Sephiroth, and the Tau Cross contains the lower four, answering to the four elements.
The three main Adepts in the 5=6 Ceremony, the 3rd, 2nd, and Chief Adept, (also the Officers in the Portal Degree) use their Crux Ansatas to infuse the candidate with Light of LVX, causing the Higher Self to descend into his/her Ruach by awakening the Sephiroth of the Middle Pillar in the candidate's Aura. The Crux Ansata can also be used by a Magician to charge his/her own Sphere of Sensation with the forces of the Middle Pillar. The "Key of Life" is a potent tool for unlocking centers of energy within the Adept: creating a pathway for the natural influx of Divine Light.

The Crook and Scourge

The Crook and the Scourge symbolize the opposing concepts of Mercy and Severity. They are additional implements of the Chief Adept when he/she is in the Godform of Osiris within the tomb. (there is a slight discrepancy here-with the information from the Portal Ritual in Self Initiation-pgs 608-609 "SERAPIS: The godform of the Hiereus and the deity associated with the Elemental Earth. Serapis has a man's body and the head of a bull. The skin of the god is black and he wears the Solar disk and a uraeus between his cresent horns. His tunic is white bordered with black and his pectoral collar is banded red, yellow, and blue. His nemyss is striped black and white and his wristbands are banded black and white. He bears either the Crook of Mercy and the Scourge of Severity or the Sword of the Hierus. Serapis is seated upon a throne of black ornamented with white, and stands upon a pavement of black and white squares...OSIRIS: The godform of the Chief Adept and the deity associated with teh Elemental Spirit. Osiris has a human head, and wears a nemyss striped white and yellow, surmounted by the white Stenu crown of the Upper Regions. He is mummy-wrapped in white except for his head and hands. His pectoral collar is banded white, red, blue, yellow, and black. His wristbands are banded yellow and white. Osiris bears a white Djed Wand or a white pentagram-headed scepter of the Chief Adept. The god sits upon the Throne of white ornamented in yellow, which stands upon a white pavement)...In ancient texts, the Phoenix staff, the sceptor (crook) and the flail or whip were the three symbols of authority held by Osiris. The Crook or hooked staff is symbolic of the Mercy of Chesed and the White Pillar. In Christian symbolism, it is a pastoral attribute-the implement of a shepherd-and a symbol of faith. The hook stands for divine power, communication, and connection. Its suggestive spiral shape also implies creative power. In the symbolical of the R.R. et A.C. the Crook is painted the colors of the Minutum Mundum. It is divided into the colors symbolic of Kether, Aleph, Chokman, Taurus, Chesed, Leo, Aries, Tiphareth, Capricorn and Hod. (That would be quite the Incense!!!) The implement thus starts in the Supernal realm leading from Kether to Chokmah via the 11th Path (The Fool) and down to Chesed, the seat of Mercy from the 16th Path (The Hierophant) ending at length in the watery sphere of Hod.
The Scourge or Flail is symbolic of Severity and of the Black Pillar. It too is painted in accordance with the Munutum Mundum. It is separated into the colors of Netzach, Scorpio, Tiphareth, Gemini, Binah, Cancer, Geburah and Mem. The Implement symbolically starts in the Fire of Netzach, and crosses the Crook of Mercy. The tip of the Scourge reaches the sphere of Binah before the flailed ends descends to Geburah and the 23rd Path of the Hanged Man.
The Crook of Mercy must be held in the right hand and the Scourge of Severity in the left hand. The arms should then be crossed upon the chest and the two implements will be in the proper position to represent the Pillars of Mercy and Severity in the Adept's Sphere of Sensation. According to the Adeptus Minor Ceremony, these tools are emblems of Eternal Opposing Forces between which the entire equilibrium of the Universe depends. The reconciliation of these Forces is the Key of Life (The Rose and Cross, as well as the Crux Ansata) and whose separation is evil and death. The Crook and Scourge may be employed by an Adept in a ceremony to balance and equilibrate the Forces of Mercy and Severity within him/her inner self. They may also be used in a ritual/meditation invoking the godform of Osiris.

Golden Dawn Temple of Hermanubis-as a Hyperstructure in the 5th Dimension Astral Temple

Hyperstructure in the 5th Dimension
Astral Temple of Hermanubis-

...the Astral form of the Temple gradually expands to a 5th dimensional hyperstructure by Netzach / Portal and then is actually used in the 2nd Order of the Temple of Thelema.

are you familiar with this volume by Crowley? supposedly according to a Thelemite it states how to establish a physical temple on a astral level...in the Temple of Thelema: they state: ...the Astral form of the Temple gradually expands to a 5th dimensional hyperstructure by Netzach / Portal and then is actually used in the 2nd Order of the Temple of Thelema.

V 1. Let the student be at rest in one of his prescribed positions, having bathed and robed with the proper decorum. Let the place of working be free from all disturbance, and let the preliminary purifications, banishings and invocations be duly accomplished, and, lastly, let the incense be kindled.
2. Let him imagine his own figure (preferably robed in the proper magical garments and armed with the proper magical weapons) as enveloping his physical body, or standing near to and in front of him.
3. Let him then transfer the seat of his consciousness to that imagined figure; so that it may seem to him that he is seeing with its eyes, and hearing with its ears. This will usually be the great difficulty of the operation.
4. Let him then cause that imagined figure to rise in the air to a great height above the earth.
5. Let him then stop and look about him. (It is sometimes difficult to open the eyes.)
6. Probably he will see figures approaching him, or become conscious of a landscape. Let him speak to such figures, and insist upon being answered, using the proper pentagrams and signs, as previously taught.
7. Let him travel about at will, either with or without guidance from such figure or figures. {27}
8. Let him further employ such special invocations as will cause to appear the particular places he may wish to visit.
9. Let him beware of the thousand subtle attacks and deceptions that he will experience, carefully testing the truth of all with whom he speaks. Thus a hostile being may appear clothed with glory; the appropriate pentagram will in such a case cause him to shrivel or decay.
10. Practice will make the student infinitely wary in these matters.
11. It is usually quite easy to return to the body, but should any difficulty arise, practice (again) will make the imagination fertile. For example, one may create in thought a chariot of fire with white horses, and command the charioteer to drive earthwards. It might be dangerous to go too far, or to stay too long; for fatigue must be avoided. The danger spoken of is that of fainting, or of obsession, or of loss of memory or other mental faculty.
12. Finally, let the student cause his imagined body in which he supposes himself to have been travelling to coincide with the physical, tightening his muscles, drawing in his breath, and putting his forefinger to his lips. Then let him “awake” by a well-defined act of will, and soberly and accurately record his experiences. It may be added that this apparently complicated experiment is perfectly easy to perform. It is best to learn by “travelling” with a person already experienced in the matter. Two or three experiments will suffice to render the student confident and even expert. See also “The Seer”, pp. 295-333.

VI 1. The previous experiment has little value, and leads to few results of importance. But it is susceptible of a development which merges into a form of Dharana — concentration — and as such may lead to the very highest ends. The principal use of the practice in the last chapter is to familiarise the student with every kind of obstacle and every kind of delusion, so that he may be perfect master of every idea that may arise in his brain, to dismiss it, to transmute it, to cause it instantly to obey his will.
2. Let him then begin exactly as before, but with the most intense solemnity and determination.
3. Let him be very careful to cause his imaginary body to rise in a line exactly perpendicular to the earth's tangent at the point where his physical body is situated (or to put it more simply, straight upwards).
4. Instead of stopping, let him continue to rise until fatigue almost overcomes him. If he should find that he has stopped without willing to do so, and that figures appear, let him at all costs rise above them. Yea, though his very life tremble on his lips, let him force his way upward and onward!
5. Let him continue in this so long as the breath of life is in him. Whatever threatens, whatever allures, though it were Typhon and all his hosts loosed from the pit and leagued against him, though it were from the very Throne of God Himself that a Voice issues bidding him stay and be content, let him struggle on, ever on.
6. At last there must come a moment when his whole {29} being is swallowed up in fatigue, overwhelmed by its own inertia.* * This in case of failure. The results of success are so many and wonderful that no effort is here made to describe them. They are classified, tentatively, in the "Herb Dangerous," Part II., infra. Let him sink (when no longer can he strive, though his tongue by bitten through with the effort and the blood gush from his nostrils) into the blackness of unconsciousness; and then, on coming to himself, let him write down soberly and accurately a record of all that hath occurred, yeah a record of all that hath occurred.

A five-dimensional space is a space with five dimensions. If interpreted physically, that is one more than the usual three spatial dimensions and the fourth dimension of time used in relativitistic physics. It is an abstraction which occurs frequently in mathematics, where it is a legitimate construct.
therefore projecting the Astral Projection of the Physical Temple as a "legitimate construct"...
"The hyperstructures are algebraic structures equipped with at least one multi-valued operation, called a hyperoperation. The largest classes of the hyperstructures are the ones called Hv – structures."
SO- in this concept it is describing 'multi-valued' temples-one physical and one astral...with the ritual itself being a 'hyperoperation'.
